Slice of Okinawa- life for young Marines

Am trying out a new theme of posts to do as the inspiration strikes, one or two shots of a subject that may seem mundane on the surface but tell a but deeper story.  Here's the first try:

Dawn on Camp Courtney, and the line of taxis outside the main barracks buildings reaches its maximum number of about 12, right around 0630.  Only one cab company has an on-base contract.
Who are they waiting for?  For all the young, single Marines getting ready to go to work.  Where is work?  For all of them, their work space is no more than 800 meters away.  Yet even in good weather, these cabbies make 600 yen once a fare gets in and closes the door.  That's about $8 at the moment.
And so a small portrait of mutual economic benefit is shown, although the psychological meanings behind extremely fit Marines wanting a chauffeur ride half a click to the office warrants further contemplation...
